DIY Wedding Decor

People are getting back to old fashioned family weddings again. With the trend to working and living away from home, sometimes all the way across the country or half way around the world, couples are coming back to the nest for their momentous occasions, including getting married.

On top of the cost of travel home, the bridal couple must plan and pay for a reception which includes not only their friends from the past and those who have traveled home with them, but also their family and extended family. This leads to large celebrations which tend to have large costs!

One way to reduce costs is for the wedding couple and their friends to take on the task of decorating and setup for their reception/dance. A lot of the pre-planning and organizing can be done via email or phone, which allows the bride and groom to be hands on from away.

Both the bride and groom from this black and white damask wedding at a large Miramichi hotel work in northern Alberta, and only arrived home 5 days before the wedding. Through phone and email consultations with Ginette from www.theperfectdaymiramichi.com, they were able to select tablecloths, chair covers, damask sashes and a backdrop, which they picked up a couple of days before their wedding day.  The bride met with her consultant on her arrival home and gave final approval to her choices. Since most of the planning and preparation  had taken place weeks before the wedding date, the bride was able to relax and enjoy her time at home with her family before her big day. Family and friends helped in the setup and all took pride in the beautiful results. Items were returned by family members a couple of days after the wedding.

From a few items to a full complement of rental items, The Perfect Day Miramichi can help make your day perfect. Our best sellers are our table linens and chair covers, which combine to give an elegant look to any room. From recreation centers to large convention hotels our linen rentals have graced beautiful receptions. See the difference chair covers can make in the two pictures below.

Damask table squares over white tablecloths give a classy air to a wedding reception held at a local recreation center. Sometimes the venue gives a perfect backdrop to your decor ideas. For an idea of what items are available in what colours and your costs to incorporate them into your event check our website.

A backdrop can be used to cover a less that beautiful wall, or unwanted windows, or can carry out your theme with the colours used. Or your head table could simply stand on it's own elegance as seen here.
For some events a backdrop serves as a perfect foil for the bridal party, giving a uniform background for pictures and video.

Your table settings can enhance or complement your theme or colours. At a recent movie themed wedding the bride folded her napkins into pockets for her cutlery, but added a special touch. The napkins were wrapped with movie film strip to carry out her theme.

The bride was able to pick up her napkins at The Perfect Day Miramichi several days before her event to allow her time to get them folded and wrapped without any last minute rush.

For napkin folding ideas, browse wedding sites and wedding magazines or click here. Some of the folds are very elaborate and should only be attempted for a small dinner party due to the time involved, but many of them can be done ahead and stored in a bin until your big day.

Napkins can simply be rolled and placed on a dinner plate, and can be used to add a touch of colour under your centerpiece. When rolling napkins a paper band printed with a design or the names of the bride and groom can be used to tie into the theme.

If you plan to place your napkins into your wine glasses, you can fold them into fans ahead of time and lock the fan in with a paper band in the wedding colours or with a message to your guests imprinted. Using cover stock (available at most office supply stores and some department stores) gives a crisp look to your bands. Any word processing program and a pair of scissors are all you need to create them.

Or you can simply scrunch your napkins into your glasses, the overall effect throughout the room is that of a colorful field of flowers as you can see below.

These napkins were first folded into a square then placed into the wine glasses and the top fluffed out to create the above effect. It is a quick method to add colour and style to your table settings. Glasses, napkins, mirrors and centerpiece glassware available at The Perfect Day Miramichi.

Your choice of linens can affect the look of your reception. From dramatic to ethereal, all moods can be created. Bold colours coupled with black make a statement with their visual impact,

or a fairytale mood can be created with more subtle tone on tone pairings in shades of ivory and champagne.

Floral centerpieces can be expensive and may not be the look your are trying to achieve. Renting or buying your own centerpiece glassware, and adding simple touches may give you the desired effect. Some of our glassware used as centerpieces required only the addition of a couple of silk flowers, a candle or feathers for attractive and inexpensive table focal points.

Addition of coloured water topped with white feathers changes the look of the eiffel tower vases!

Mirrors add depth and interest to your centerpiece.

Or table runners can complete the look with your colours.

Making and designing your own centerpieces is simply a matter of choosing your colours and adding a few touches to simple glassware, mirrors and runners.

Having the wedding of your dreams begins with meeting that perfect person and peaks with marrying them on your Perfect Day!
